Back in January, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced his yearly challenge with a post on Facebook. In it, the CEO announced that he is going to run 365 miles in 2016 and encouraged Facebook users to join him in his challenge. Similar to last year’s challenge of ‘A Year of Books’, he named this years’ challenge as ‘A Year of Running’ and made a public group where people could join the group to join the challenge. The group was meant to discuss the adventures during the run, along with tips and to track progress periodically.
This was his second personal challenge of 2016 with the first challenge detailed a day before he posted ‘A Year of Running’ Challenge. Zuckerberg detailed his first project, to build a personal AI to help him run his home and office in a FastCompany profile along with videos showing off ‘Jarvis’ voiced by Morgan Freeman. In the excitement, while watching the ‘Jarvis’ videos, most forgot about his second challenge of 2016.
To be fair, it is nobody’s fault if that skipped their mind as Zuckerberg completed his second challenge way back in July and. But he did not stop there and increased the challenge to add biking and swimming, turning it into a challenge to train for a triathlon. According to a Facebook Live in June he revealed that he broke his arm while biking and had to stop swimming to recover. The company published a heat mat of the number of members in the ‘A Year of Running’.
